Searching for the hidden gem: The treasure-hunting trip for glasses at Nagar Glass Factory

Nagar glass factory is a dear place to me – and I try to take visitors to Yangon to this unique treasure hunting ground. A fourth generation family business, trained by glass makers of Murano, Nagar Glass Factory is like much of Yangon – beautiful but broken.

Nagar glass factory is a magical treasure hunting ground

The factory was destroyed during the cyclone of 2008 and permanently closed after the government removed the gas price subsidies. The family of two dozen or so people still live on site and they will help you to clean and polish the glass that you find walking about the factory grounds.

Rummaging through the rubble is the best way to find beauty

These will be beautiful whiskey glasses for the bar
